Deer Hunting References - All Camps

References – 2007

Please note:  At the conclusion of each hunt, we send hunters a post-hunt questionnaire, and it is from these documents that the quotes below are taken.  Hunters are asked, “Regarding your hunt, are you (circle one)  not satisfied – satisfied – very satisfied.”?

Listed below are ALL of the post-hunt documents we have received back from our 2007 season hunters to date.  Of course, not all hunters return the questionnaires.  We get permission from each before we list a name and contact information.  Some comments below had no name attached, but they gave us permission to use the comment and we have done so, even though some are unfavorable.  Each camp is listed separately.  Each list of comments begins with those who were “very satisfied”.  Those who were “satisfied” are listed next.  Those few who were less-than or “not satisfied” are listed last.  In each group, the list is arranged, more or less, in the order in which we received the questionnaires back from the hunters.

Abbreviations used:  First = first time hunting here

                                  R = repeat hunter

                                  RR = has hunted here several times

                                  RRR = has hunted here numerous times

                                  BB = Booked Back for 2008

Please feel free to contact anyone you see listed here.  They have agreed to act as a reference.  Please note whether a phone number is d – day or n – night.

Very Satisfied

“Adobe and its staff are on top of their game when it comes to quality management.  An incredible amount of game including a significant number of older age class bucks.  You and Kyle are doing an amazing job with this herd.  This ranch, when it comes to quantity and especially quality of good bucks, reminds me of some of the “elite” ranches I have hunted in South Texas.  You kept commenting that the lodging wasn’t quite 5-star, but the food and hospitality of you and your crew more than made up for any shortcomings the lodge may have.  Besides, when it comes to judging a ranch, I would sleep in a tent to be able to hunt property like yours.  Adobe Lodge Hunting Camp is a first-rate deer hunting operation.”   Tom Dade, Katy, TX  d 281 253-0092; n 281 392-4307; jtdade@comcast.net  (First)

“In my opinion you got the business end down pat.  You need to try to offer a management buck along with the hunt packages and put a price on a management bucks to get rid of the 6 and 7 pointers with no brow tines that have 18” to 20” spreads.  Also kill some of the 8 pointers.  It’s an all around great hunt !   Good people with good fellowship.  A lot of nice deer.”   (This hunter said we could use his comments in our advertising, but did not want to be listed as a reference.) “No improvement needed.  It is a great hunt.”  Glenn Wise, Carlisle, PA  d/n 717 243-0069; (RRR, BB).

“Super.  I saw 3-4 tens; 5-7 nines; 16-18 eights, etc.  I can’t think of any improvements.  It was great.  (I would recommend this hunt) because you guys are honest – you tell it like it is; and you do what you promised.  God Bless you all.  Note: Beaver McManus is a great guy – he runs a top-notch camp and he is a class-act.  God Bless Adobe Lodge!  It was almost Heaven.”  Rev. Bob Putt, Mt. Holly Springs, PA; d/n 717 486-4738 (First, BB)

“Property is not over-hunted thus quality and quantity of deer is outstanding.  Accommodations at the McManus Ranch feel like going to deer camp here in PA.  Only difference – Texas has deer.”  Tim Miller, Carlisle, PA  d/n 717 249-3901  tandcmiller@pa.net  (RR, BB)

“I do not know how it could be any better.”  Tom Scheivert, Aston, PA  d/n 610 459-3864; t.scheivert@comcast.net   ( RR)

“(Saw) 10 buck, 15 doe.  Deer appeared to be very healthy.  This was my first out-of-state hunt.  I liked the way things were at McManus.  The camp is very homey.  No need to make changes at this time.  When I had questions, you e-mailed me very quickly.  The info packet you sent me was very helpful.  When you say you will do something, it is done.  I appreciated you and your wife picking me up at the airport, most operations would say ‘rent a car’.  The quality of bucks was very good.  You folks treat people with respect.”

“Adobe Lodge is by far the best value for your hunting dollar.  No trophy or inch fees.  One price for any size buck.  I’ve hunted Adobe Lodge for four years now and have always been pleased with the quality and quantity of bucks.  You may see 10-15 shooter bucks in one afternoon.  Overall – excellent job.”  Alan McKeithen, Riverside, CA  d 951 689-0847; n 951 687-6798; ramsafety@earthlink.net (RR, BB)

“Saw 25+ bucks in only two days.  Don’t change anything.  Beaver and his staff are great folks.  They make you feel like a family member.  The quantity and quality of mature bucks is almost unbelievable, especially since this is open range with no high fence.  I almost always had a mature buck in range.”  Brian Cespiva, Pineville, LA;

“Settled for a nice 9 pointer after letting bigger deer walk.  Just a great place to hunt.  The amount and quality of game I saw was outstanding.  (This hunter then went on to write a full page describing a ‘bad experience’ he suffered when cattle around the feeder he was hunting became a problem – running off bucks, etc.  He thinks he is entitled to some form of compensation for losing hunting time due to the cattle.  This hunter refused to move to other available blinds where there were no cattle.)”  John Hubschmidt, Bridgeton, NJ  d/n 856 451-6189 (RRR, BB)

“Your attention to detail is exhibited in the quality of camp, owner, and staff at Mustang Ranch.  Each hunter we met and all the staff were gentlemen.  That alone is a measure of your operation.

With the many requirements of life, we have so few opportunities to hunt with our children that is especially satisfying when an adventure is perfect in every way.  Always encouraging and helpful, the staff were there to make the experience pleasurable and productive.  Their enjoyment of the outdoors was infectious.

We look forward to coming back and in large part to see the friends we make.  Those 10 point bucks we took will long remembered as icing on the cake.  Thanks for the great service.”  Jeff Buck, Dana Point, CA d 949 212-1754; n 949 661-1000; jeffbuck@cox.net (First)

“The Mustang Camp was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.  Taking my first buck and meeting the most welcoming and compassionate staff was an added bonus.  What made the trip so exciting was the service, and assistance that came into the hunting experience.

The guides were exceptional and had some of the best eye for deer I have ever seen.  Being 2 yards away from a live buck who had absolutely no idea we were there and being able to experience a fawn as up close as I did made the trip even more memorable.

Since I was the first woman hunter in the camp I feel it is important to share a few details about the camp.  The house we stayed in was top-class for camp housing and the food was amazing.  You could not have treated a woman hunter such as myself with more graciousness and friendliness along with it.

Thank you for the wonderful memories and for the wonderful friendships we have shared.  We hope to see you again and gain many more memories with the Adobe Lodge family.”  Laura Beth Buck, Dana Point, CA  d 949 661-1000; n 949 350-5738; beth_buck72@hotmail.com  (First)

“The operation was fantastic, I have been to a number of places, some were a lot more upper class, some were lower.  The Mustang Ranch operation was above satisfactory.  I could not begin to offer advice for improvement.  In short, I would not change a thing.  The staff has everything managed precisely.  Very good team work, and a fantastic ranch.  Everyone in our group had a blast.  From arrival to departure, we could not have asked for better hosts.”  John Lowe, Winnie, TX; d 409 989-7819; n 281 635-4969; jlowe@tetratec.com (First)

“Our guide Cam was very knowledgeable and friendly.  My 8 year old son was cold one morning, and he went out of his way for him and treated him like his own.”  David Potter, Leesburg, GA; d 229 420-0661; n 229 869-9230; leepowerequipment@bellsouth.net (first)

“(Saw) lots of deer, many good bucks – 3 or 4 shooters.  Murry runs a good camp.  See lots of deer, many good bucks.  Good food, a fun hunt, no hidden fees or trophy fees, one price for any BC score buck.”  Matt Shubert, Zionsville, PA  d/n 215 679-9335; shuberts@mbctv.com  (First)

“(Saw) lots of bucks, even more than last year.  See plenty of deer and have a great time with all the guys at camp.  Murry really tries hard to get you the deer you want.”  Heath Chambliss, Kentwood, LA  d 985 969-1327 (RR).

“Make the airplane ride shorter.  I think everything is great the way it is.  After four years, I can’t begin to explain all the reasons (I would recommend this hunt)”  Mike Austill, Reading, PA  d 610 721-5687; n 610 926-0196; austillconstruction@msn.com  (RR)

“Lots of deer – a few very good.  Murry Hatfield was excellent as a person and as a guide.  I could not imagine a better experience for my nephews.  I would recommend it for others and give a reference gladly.  Food good – beef brisket was absolutely top notch!  I was appreciative that Murry cooked my deer liver and tongue.  Ribeye steaks were excellent.  The rest was o.k.”  Jon Isaacs, Greenwood Village, CO  d 303 347-2636;
